Spicy Peach Mezcal Mule-Ritas are frothy and sweet with fresh summer peaches. Mezcal adds smoke and jalapeños add a zing. And the best part? They’re ready in five minutes!
Current problem: How do I fit all the star ingredients in this cocktail into a single title that will fit on one line and simply roll off your tongue? Spicy Peach Mezcal Mule-Rita, that’s how. I conquered, but I had to make up a word in the process. Then I think to myself, when did “mule” come to mean “with ginger beer” and when did “margarita” come to mean “with tequila?” Maybe Mule-Rita is gonna be the next big thing. Maybe I’m starting a trend.
And anyway, I read cocktail menus all the time and most craft cocktails just have made up names. So I should probably just channel my inner mixologist/menu-writer/cocktail namer and go with… Sunset Over Bali… or Mexicali Street Fight… or Tiger in the Tall Grass.
I don’t know where I come up with this stuff. Actually, I’ll tell you about Tiger in the Tall Grass. Are you ready for a story? One of my good friends told me once that he was my Tiger in the Tall Grass. It makes me smile and sort of giggle every time I think of it. Legitimately. Smiling ear-to-ear right now. ‘Cause A. What a compliment! and B. It’s just such a silly, but very fitting, thing to say. Like, once you know what that saying means, it makes total sense.
I was going to tell you to go Google “tiger in the tall grass” because now I feel like I’m talking about myself too much, but Google doesn’t have an answer. Maybe my friend made it up?! Basically, he meant that I keep getting hung up on the wrong men and he is just hiding out (like a tiger in the tall grass), waiting for me to realize he’s a catch. In the meantime, he went and met the love of his life. Dang. <3
BUT IT’S A GREAT NAME FOR A COCKTAIL — Tiger in the Tall Grass — AKA Spicy Peach Mezcal Mule-Rita.
Yep friends, this is the kind of writing you get when I don’t have my editorial calendar and/or idea journal up to date.
So what does this Tiger in the Tall Grass AKA Spicy Peach Mezcal Mule-Rita taste like? Frothy, juicy, spicy (very, very spicy if you make ahead), sweet, sparkly, smoky (that mezcal, mmm…). And the color of a sunset.
I definitely recommend pouring the whole cocktail over crushed ice. I have you puree the peaches with ginger beer, so the base of the cocktail is like a frothy, sweet nectar. The crushed ice makes the entire drink ultra refreshing. I had to crush my cubes with a hammer and I would do it again, no problem.
I made my Spicy Peach Mezcal Mule-Ritas in the morning and took them on a boat in the afternoon. The whole crew only got 1-2 ounces each, but the general consensus was a very animated thumbs up. And by animated I mean, a steam-rollin’-out-the-ears thumbs up! (If you don’t love jalapeños, definitely add the jalapeño slices just before serving.)

I love the dynamic of the ingredients, one bringing the other to another level! Nothing like a good “sweet” with a touch of fire drink! Plus Viva el Mezcal! Lovely drink!

Sounds like an interesting combination of flavours in this drink. I have never had a “mule” before. I think I need to experiment in the kitchen and give this a try, This would make a fun party drink.

I love mezcal! I just did a grilled pineapple and basil drink with mezcal as its base. But peaches and jalapenos and mezcal sound like – like I need to run out right now and get some fresh peaches and make this!
