Saucy Air Fryer Buffalo Wings are lip-licking-good. Crispy skin with tender and juicy meat, you’ll never believe these weren’t cooked in a deep fryer!

I’m super excited today because healthier buffalo wings + air fryer + GIVEAWAY! Happy Monday, my friends! Happy Fun-Summertime-Brand New Kitchen Appliance-Healthier Cooking-Giving Things Away For Free-Monday.

Normally, I like to talk about the good food first, but I know everyone has air fryer questions. Even while I was awaiting its arrival via the postal service, I was already telling all my people about the BELLA Air Fryer. The very first questions e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e asked are, “What is that?” and, “How does it work?” So let’s just tackle those questions of yours first and then we’ll talk about lip-licking-good Air Fryer Buffalo Wings.

What is an air fryer?

BELLA Air Fryer | theeverykitchen.com

An air fryer is a cooking appliance that fries food using air. So yep – just how it sounds, friends! The BELLA Air Fryer website says, “Whatever you can deep fry, you can air fry.”

How does it work?

BELLA Air Fryer | theeverykitchen.com

An air fryer “fries” or cooks food by circulating hot air around the food at high speed. This produces a crispy and browned outer layer, while keeping the inside moist and tender. It’s that simple. I almost wish it were more complicated because you know how long-winded I love to be. But that’s it!

Why do I want it?

Obviously, this means you don’t have to submerge your food into a vat of bubbly fat, instantly increasing calories and fat. Some fat or oil is required, but maybe just a few tablespoons for fries, veggies, or popcorn shrimp. The skin on these wings provided enough fat that I didn’t need to add any extra oil at all!

Another plus, the air fryer is safer than deep frying. Think you’re going to miss getting nervous about starting a fire on the stove top? Or are you going to miss the popping and exploding oil of your Fry Daddy burning your shins and your arms? Didn’t think so! Also, no dealing with storing or discarding large amounts of used oil. Easy clean-up — The BELLA Air Fryer is dishwasher safe. I think I’m in love, friends.

Tell me about Air Fryer Buffalo Wings, stat!

My first air fryer recipe, Air Fryer Buffalo Wings, is a tribute to my dad. Shhh… He might be getting the BELLA Air Fryer for Father’s Day. Growing up in the 90’s, before there was this huge, national focus on nutrition — before we really knew a lot about nutrition in general! — Dad would plug the Fry Daddy in on the back porch for Sunday supper. Mom would whisk up the buffalo sauce and Dad would fry the wings.

Every. Sunday.

Until my family became more health conscious, that is. And somewhere along the way, the Fry Daddy went to Fry Daddy Heaven and I cannot remember the last time my family ate buffalo wings for dinner.

I have a feeling that my saucy Air Fryer Buffalo Wings are going to re-institutionalize Sunday supper in my parent’s household. They are quick and easy and saucy and every bit as flavorful and lip-licking good as deep-fried buffalo wings. The skin is crispy, but the chicken is juicy and falls off the bone. Dad — and let’s face it, this gift is every bit as much for Mom too — is going to LOVE his BELLA Air Fryer and he is going to LOVE me because of it. I’m totally winning Father’s Day this year, sorry sibs!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wingettes (about 20)
  • 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buffalo sauce
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Celery for serving
  • Blue cheese dressing* for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat air fryer to 360 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Toss in wings until fully coated and shake off excess. Place wings in basket of air fryer for 30-35 minutes, tossing every 5 minutes, until golden brown and crisy. Transfer wings to a bowl.
  2. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in buffalo sauce. Pour sauce mixture over the wings and toss to coat. Serve with blue cheese dressing and celery.

Recipe Notes

*In sticking with our healthy theme, I used Bolthouse Farms Organic Signature Blue Cheese Dressing, which has less than 1/3 the calories and fat of traditional blue cheese dressing.

We are definitely more health conscious in my home and because of this I never cook fried food (aside from the donuts i make for photographic purposes). As a matter of fact, I’m not sure I even know how to fry meat. That said I do enjoy some sweet potato fries now and again but when you bake them they really don’t come out as crispy as what you get in restaurants. Loving this little kitchen appliance for that alone. Of course these wings look delicious too and I know my hubby would be a big fan of them (especially if they are healthier).

Have you tried an air-fryer before? I am curious to see how fries and sweet potato fries turn out! I know they will be different, but hoping they will still be satisfying!

I do already have tons of machines in my kitchen… but this one looks like a necessary one! Especially when I’m on this eternal diet… I must try it out! These buffalo wings and extra blue cheese are the first thing I would reproduce in there for sure! Looks incredible!

I’ve been so curious about these. I really don’t like frying food for healthy and safety reasons (it always freaks me out to have that much hot oil cooking). This looks awesome!

The reason I bought an air fryer is I really can’t stand oily feeling in my month. I seriously always need a cup of tea with me everytime I have deep fried food. This recipt looks great! Will try with my air fryer!

These are incredible!! New to air frying and one of the first things I wanted to try was wings. Found your site and went for it. So, so good. My husband said they give our fav wing place a run for their money. I made a 24k sauce (can find on Frank’s Red Hot page). Thanks!!

After reading your article I have decided to order a air fryer. I had been pondering getting one and after reading your article I am convinced. We built a new house and my significant other decided we didn’t need a oven because we bought a pellet grill. I am not a fan of standing outside in the winter to grill/cook. I love the smell of roast & chicken in the oven. It makes the house smell so good.

Do you put all of the wings in the basket at once (on top of each other) or do you spread them out on a single layer? I was just thinking that it may take a couple rounds to get them all done on a single layer.

Great question, Sarah! I do fill up the fry basket, but I make sure to toss them every 5 minutes, so they cook evenly.
