Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter 1/2 stick, chilled and cut into cubes
  • 1 1/2 cups Irish stout such as Guinness or Murphy's

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Prepare a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. Add flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and butter to a food processor. Pulse until the mixture is well-blended and resembles bread crumbs. Add the stout and pulse until a sticky dough is formed.
  3. On a well-floured or oiled surface, knead dough until smooth. Divide into 4 balls and place on a baking sheet. Dust the tops with flour.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes at 425 degrees F. Then reduce heat to 350 degrees F and bake 5 more minutes until the loaves are puffy and beginning to crack. Place loaves on a wire rack to cool.
