Skinny and Seasoned Salty Dog

My Skinny and Seasoned Salty Dog is sweet and spicy, clocking in well under 100 calories. This citrusy recipe will aid the move from spring into the dead heat of summer. Be it a bridal shower, graduation, or Memorial Day party, the Skinny and Seasoned Salty Dog is sure to steal the show.

This is actually my very first cocktail recipe for the blog. Funny because I make cocktails all the time. Mine are usually just like, “Oh, what do we have in the fridge? How can I turn this into something alcoholic? Do you think that’d be good with some vodka?” Super un-fancy. Super un-classy. But ya know, I think I’ve learned my lesson. Skinny and Seasoned Salty Dog is super easy and super classy and I already had all of the ingredients in my fridge. My eyes have been opened and I’m taking my mixology up a notch from now on.

And by up a notch, I mean, Skinny and Seasoned Salty Dog will be my summer cocktail of choice. I’m a huge cocktail fan, but they are usually loaded with calories and sugar. Before I head out, I always remind myself, “Danielle, wine or light beer.” And then I order a cocktail. And I’m not tempted by your run-of-the-mill margarita or cosmo, but I love craft cocktails — things with fancy ingredients that I can’t pronounce. Drinks with liqueurs that I’ve never heard of and am not sure what flavor it will impart, but I have to find out. Or drinks with pretty colors, filled with fruit and herbs, hot chilies or seasonal garnishes, seasoned rims and flavor combinations that I just need in my hand NOW.

While it’s hard to make a drink at home with fancy ingredients or expensive liqueurs that you’ll use only once, Skinny and Seasoned Salty Dog does meet the pretty color requirement. And we can check off 2. filled with fruit, 3. seasonal garnish, 4. seasoned rim, 5. flavor combination that we need NOW. And let’s also, just for the fun of it, stretch a little and check off 6. hot chilies. (There are no hot chilies, but we have a spicy-ish rim that hits the same spot. Maybe even hits a better spot.)

So who’s ready for a summer cocktail?

A side note: While all of my friends are cranking out that 9-5, I love that some days my job entails cocktail testing at 11 a.m. with my dog. We live the life.

Recipe Notes

*To reduce sodium content, use Lawry’s Reduced Sodium Seasoned Salt and Mrs. Dash Lemon Pepper. **I used Deep Eddy because I love the color, but there are several other brands.
