When it comes to my kitchen, here are the rules I play by:
1. Anything goes!
I like all foods, or will at least taste anything once. That being said, I’m trying to step up the sophistication in my own kitchen. I was skeptical to try Swiss chard, but my savory green pie went viral! Lesson learned: It pays to play.
2. Have fun.
Sometimes that means experimenting with a new food or new recipe and sometimes that means playing with new flavors in an old family favorite.
3. Take a shortcut…
…but only if it doesn’t compromise the flavor or quality of a dish. I’m a busy woman. That means I often use a bottled salad dressing or a jar of tomato sauce. And sometimes I buy the veggies that are already peeled and diced.
4. Healthy meals are non-negotiable.
You are what you eat and when I eat well, I feel well. And when I feel well, I want to cook more. And when I cook more, I blog more.
5. But everything in moderation.
Pass the chocolate chip cookies, please!
6. Lastly, food should be shared.
Whether we’re sharing something created in my own home or a dish at my favorite restaurant, food is about nourishment. And what is more nourishing than a good meal in the company of good people?
